Pre-Fall 2016 Womens Chanel: First Look

Categories:Other Brands

It’s the collection between Métiers d’Art and F/W16, and what Chanel likes to call its‘starting point’ for the coming season. Based loosely around its previous haute couture collection, this one is definitely best-suited for those who love classic Chanel, because it’s a collection that’s full of it, from pearls and leather chain-link accessories to bags and SLGs in black and gold, all perfect accompaniments for that glitzy night out on the town.

And because the full collection isn’t in the stores yet (it’s still the Métiers d’Art and the S/S16 collections selling at boutiques now), I’ll just leave you with some stills of the gorgeous bags and accessories for now and do another update soon in the coming weeks. Enjoy.

I lost count, how many releases have we got from CHANEL this year?

And just to make sure we are on the same line; the Fall Winter 2014 Collection haven’t been dropped yet, you know the bags we enjoyed at the Chanel Supermarket Runway. So before you decide to go ‘all-in’, remember that you need to reserve some budget for the next spree (shopping spree).

For those that crave for their own Boy Bag, but can’t buy because the prices are too steep, Chanel purposely designed a lower priced version crafted from Velvet. You can see more at Chanel Boy Fall Winter 2014 Pre-Collection.

The Chanel Flap Bag with Retro Clasp got their own redesign too, instead of using leather, they are now made in Jersey, also lower priced than the original version. Read more at Chanel Seasonal Fall Winter 2014 Pre-Collection.

Now let’s talk about this article, a series of snapshots in black and white made by Karl Lagerfeld. The purpose of this post is to open your eyes for the new accessories, like…

This brand-new Chanel Accordion Handbag (name described on Chanel official website). We know that this gorgeous bag is called the Chanel Gold Class Double CC Flap bag (click this link to know learn about it), released for the Cruise 2014 Collection. We have been asked numerous times whether this bag is available or not, well here is your answer.

You will probably also want to know its ‘new’ style code and prices, right?

Style code: A92537
Price around $3,400 USD – $3,800 USD.
Comparing to its previous version, the Chanel Gold Class Double CC Flap Bag from the Fall Winter 2014 Pre-Collection is made in patent and calfskin.

What you will also love is this latest Chanel Messenger Bag that comes with a long chain. It’s different than what we’ve been used to, the style is almost similar to the Chanel Chain Around Messenger Bags, which has unexpectedly returned for the Spring Summer 2014 Collection.

An unexpected design.

It’s the Chanel Mini Classic Flap Bag, then it’s not.

It’s not made from lambskin or caviar.

And it’s certainly not what we’ve been used to – no black! Thank you

Presenting the Chanel Tweed Pink Flap Bag. First appeared on one of the ‘best’ Chanel ad campaign ever made, the Fall winter 2016 Ad Campaign. And I mean it!

READ: Chanel Fall winter 2016 Ad Campaign Part 2

The ad campaign was filled with endless heavenly handbags, a lot of iconic’s, truly a glimpse on what we can expect from the to-be-released collection.

You can use the Chanel Squared Mini Classic Flap Bag as an example, when judging the Tweed Pink Flap Bag. As it got the same shape. Instead of presenting with a CC closure, Karl decided to change the style and craft it with the mademoiselle closure. This is the same closure like the Chanel 2.55 Reissue Flap Bag. Simply gorgeous.

As the title already described, it’s made from tweed and not leather. It comes with a shoulder chain and it’s only available in pink as far as we know now. But its not like awkward or occasional pink, this pink is super cute.

For those who are interested, here are the details:

Style code: A90520
Size: 7.7′ x 9.3′ x 3.5′ inches

Chanel: Once Upon A Time…

chanel_once-upon-a-time-film2Elegant, whimsical, beautiful. These three words came to mind while watching Karl Lagerfeld’s new film ‘Once Upon A Time…’ during the private premiere on the evening of 8 May. Held at the Raffles Hotel as a prelude to the main event the following day – the debut of the Chanel Cruise 2013/14 collection, it was all that it was hyped up to be.

Set in Deauville in 1913 (yes, it’s been a hundred years since!), the short film tells of Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel on that momentous day when she opened her first fashion boutique. Played by none other than the ethereal Keira Knightley, Coco, with her aunt Adrienne (Clotilde Hesme) by her side, sets out to revolutionise ladies’ wear, beginning with the simple and lightweight hat.

‘Filming with Karl Lagerfeld is a real treat. I instantly agreed to be his Coco!’ gushed Keira when asked about the filming experience. She had originally thought it would be a silent film. She probably wasn’t alone in this thought either, given the black-and-white stylised cinematography Karl had employed.

chanel_once-upon-a-time-film1Other actors include loyal Chanel devotees, models Stella Tennant, Lindsey Wixon and Jamie Bochert, all dressed suitably and delightfully in Chanel. Similarly smartly turned out were the boys, amongst whom was Jake Davis who played Coco’s great love, Boy Capel, to dreamy perfection, as well as Brad Kroenig and his son, Hudson, who played Coco’s adorable little nephew.

It may only have lasted just over 18 minutes but for present at the screening, such as Chanel ambassadors Zhou Xun, Anna Mouglalis and Astrid Berges-Frisbey, as well as the stars of the film, it was a mesmerising look into the creative mind of Karl Lagerfeld. As he himself said, ‘I inserted real anecdotes into a scenario I’ve imagined.’ Elegant, whimsical and beautiful, indeed.

Chanel Paris-Edinburgh Métiers d’Art Collection

Categories:Other Brands

chanel_paris-edinburgh-2013-collection1It’s amazing what a well-thought out colour palette, double-stitched quilted lambskin, tartan detailing and lambskin treated to look like tweed or shine iridescently can do, especially for SLGs that we are already so familiar with. Given Karl Lagerfeld’s Gaelic touch, most everything in the Chanel Paris-Edinburgh Métiers d’Art 2013 collection is, without a doubt, beautiful.

Now available in Singapore (walk past any boutique and you’ll see the window displays done up to perfection), I’m most enamoured with the SLGs, from the Boy Flap Wallet to the WOC, all given a Scottish twist.

Personal favourites include the Boy Flap Wallet in lambskin with the gold-tone hardware clasp, the key holder in gorgeous iridescent blue that’s embossed with camellias and of course, the plum iridescent lambskin WOC that comes with a small gold tartan-detailed Chanel button. What’s your favourite piece?

Chanel Vintage Canvas Briefcase

Categories:Other Brands

chanel_vintage-canvas-briefcaseI like my bags new and shiny. I like my bags old and grubby. Ok, maybe not grubby, but slightly flawed with ‘character’ marks, nicks and scuffs. Which is the beauty of pre-loved, vintage pieces in the first place. And whenever I need to get my fix, I would trawl eBay’s Japanese resellers, what with their good ‘thousand-star’ ratings, honesty regarding the condition of the item they are selling and the huge 80s boom which has left a large amount of pre-loved inventory circulating amongst the dealers.

Sure there are advantages buying pre-loved, vintage pieces. For one thing, they are almost always one-of-a-kind, and you won’t run the risk of running into someone with the same bag, not like events these days when everyone’s toting a Classic Flap. They are also rather affordable, and chances are you’ll find something nice at a much lower asking price than something that’s new at the boutique. It should also be considered a form of recycling, which is always a good thing, no?

My search keywords are almost always the same on eBay, from ‘vintage Coach’ and ‘vintage Hermes’ to ‘Gucci Bamboo’, and then there’s ‘Chanel briefcase’, which brings us to today’s find. Measuring some 37 cm across by 28 cm in height, it’s a vintage Chanel briefcase that comes with a shiny large gold clasp in a style that was popular way back when. Made of canvas, there are currently 3 on offer on eBay with prices varying from USD498 to USD748, which isn’t so bad for Chanel. The only downside, most are peeling at the edges, so it really boils down to how much distress you can take.
